Paper Wristbands vs. Tyvek Wristbands: Which is Better?

As we’re approaching the end of the year and some of the biggest annual events are only around the corner, we thought we would clarify something that many printing retailers don’t make too obvious; the difference between paper wristbands and Tyvek wristbands, and why Tyvek has become one of the most favourable material choices in the industry.

Why You Should NOT Use Paper Wristbands

As you’re probably well aware, paper isn’t one of the most durable materials. Hence, paper wristbands generally aren’t a great idea to use at your event if you’re concerned about security. They bend or tear easily, they can be copied using a home laser printer, and they definitely don’t hold up well in water. That’s why Tyvek has become the industry standard wristband material for almost every kind of event under the sun (or rain).

Tyvek is a high-density synthetic material and is well known for being very durable, water-resistant, comfortable, and almost impossible to tear or rip under normal wearing conditions while still remaining easy to remove with a knife or scissors. It is also easy and cheap to manufacture and has become an obvious preference over many other wristband materials for short-term or outdoor events.

Another important reason why you should NOT use paper wristbands is that they are incredibly easy to duplicate. You can order paper ticket stock online and run them through a laser printer to sneak into events… unpaid. This article we found online even educates people on how to get into events for free using print at home paper wristbands.

Tyvek: the New Industry Standard

Tyvek was first discovered in 1955 and trademarked by Canadian chemical company DuPont in 1965. It has been available for commercial use since 1967.

Tyvek wristbands are made from flash spun, high-density polyethylene fibres which are bonded by heat and pressure. Due to the chemical makeup of the material and the way it is produced, it allows for water vapour to pass through its fibres while blocking any liquid water. This makes it a perfect choice for any outdoor setting. Unlike a paper wristband, Tyvek wristbands won’t get damaged in the rain or in water, while remaining flexible, soft, and comfortable to wear.

Our range of Tyvek wristbands also comes with a waterproof adhesive, so you can be sure that they stay on the arm of whoever is wearing them. They are 100% printable, and we offer a great range of stock designs that will cater to all your needs. If you want to make an impact and increase your brand’s presence, we can also print them with any custom design you choose. They come in two sizes and are easy to fit to any wrist size.
